My name is Jakub Ferjak and I am currently a student of the master's programme at the Faculty of Information Technology of CTU in Prague (FIT ČVUT). There, I study Computer Security as my specialization, but when it comes to informatics and computers, neither my interests nor my study programme end just there.
I've always been fascinated by computers and our ability to use them to creatively solve real world problems, from enabling people to stay in touch 24/7 even when they're on opposide sides of the Earth, to astronauts landing on the Moon. Soon enough, I realized that in order to achieve this, one must deeply understand all the basics, whether it's the architecture of computers, computer networks or software development, while being open to adapt and learn new things in this fast-moving field.
The reason why I chose to study the specialization of information and computer security at my university is that it's something that has intrigued me - you're telling me that I can send a message over the Internet from Prague to New York, while being connected to a public Wi-Fi network, without anyone but the intended recipient being able to read it? It seemed impossible to me - I had to learn more. The result of my bachelor's studies of this specialization is my bachelor's thesis, in which I analyzed a security vulnerability in the vm2 JavaScript library. The thesis is available from the university repository.
However, cryptography, security, networking, programming and other fields of informatics would be nothing more than ideas on a blackboard if they were never applied. This is why I am now looking to follow up on my previous experiences and knowledge and put it to real use.
